Just heard on the news about an identity theft scam – the FaceBook 'dislike' button. There is no FaceBook dislike button except one I mention below! It's a FireFox addon – not a button. If you are solicited to click on this button, you are directed to a very nice looking survey. As soon as you complete the survey your identity is available to the horrible hacker who created this and he/she can post messages to your FaceBook profile.
Here is an example of what might appear on your wall – "I just got the Dislike button, so now I can dislike all of your dumb posts lol!!" This message only appears on your wall if one of your friends has already fallen for it.
This is particularly nasty because how many of us would LOVE to have a 'dislike' button.
There is a FireFox addon from FaceMod that DOES give you a dislike capability. I have not tried it but if you really want the dislike button (why not just ignore what you don't like??) get it from the source at FaceMod through FireFox -> Addons.
The moral – be VERY careful and do your due diligence before you click on stuff you don't know about – however attractive it might seem.

Oh my, I don't like this at all!!
Thanks for the alert Cathy. I think it would be tasteless to even say that to anyone. I hope I never have friends like that. Please keep up informed on other slimy scammy social networking scares
Yes Rosie – to get a 'dislike' would be quite rude. I certainly advocate ignoring something you 'dislike' rather than 'disliking' it!!
Thank you Cathy. Good of you to forewarn us.

Always on the lookout for the good and the bad!
Hi Cathy,
Thank you for sharing this information. I appreciate the heads up.
Ignoring as the sole expression for dislike does not work for me. How would I accurately interpret the absence of comments on a particular issue — is it disagreement or agreement with the position stated?
I think there are appropriate situations to ignore and those where one's disapproval should be expressed overtly. And while a dislike button is a mild form of disagreement in my opinion, it does not let one think that all the silence ensuing around a stance or position is supportive. Perhaps it isn't.
Regards,
Judith
I agree with you about total silence. If you disagree it is fine to say so but also say why. A dislike button would not accomplish that at all. I am for discussion and disagreement – in an open way. Say why you don’t like what is being said.
I already have a "Dislike" button. It's called "Unfriend" and I use it whenever I get a bunch of Farmville Mafia Wars Bedazzling crap dumped on my Profile page. Maybe I am just turning into a neo-Luddite curmudgeon, but the whole Social Media bit is starting to wear pretty thin. I am already shutting down my Twitter page, LinkedIn doesn't seem to be anything more than a digital Rolodex and Facebook is really starting to chew up too much of my time. I've even begun to entertain thoughts of life WITHOUT email!!
Hey Wesley! There are days when I agree with you totally! And you are right about ‘unfriend’. It really can be your friend. Mafia Wars was beginning to wear on me too. Thankfully I don’t get that very often anymore. Having said that, I do generate a LOT of business through Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. I have a schedule so it doesn’t take up a lot of time. I think that’s the key. You MUST adhere to a strict schedule – that applies to e-mail too.
I’m really enjoying the design and layout of your website. It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more pleasant for me to come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a designer to create your theme? Superb work!
You must be kidding! I am the WordPress Wizard – why would I hire someone to create a theme. That is my business.
